Baby Jude's Birthday

"Making a decision to have a child--it's momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body." - Elizabeth Stone

I guess it's appropriate that I finally finish this  post today, on Jude's 1 month milestone! (Wow!! Has it really been one month???)

Jude was born on a rainy Monday morning. Odd weather for a beastly Texas summer, but it made me smile remembering that the twins were also born on a rainy July morning.  We had a quiet morning with the big kids, reading books, looking at pictures, and me avoiding food. Mima stayed at the house with everyone while Scott and I drove to Medical Center Plano.

We checked in effortlessly to Labor and Delivery where the process began-- paperwork, paperwork! We kept things light, chatting and talking-- our first (and last!) alone time in a very loooong while. IV took two tries, epidural three sticks, but finally we were prepped and ready to go!

It always amazes me how quickly everything goes in the OR... we rolled in about 12:28 pm and within 20 minutes, Baby Jude was born. Scott watched the whole surgery. I tried to see things in the reflection in his eyes, but I couldn't (probably for the better!). Lots of tugging, lots of movement, and I swear my baby didn't want to emerge! I could still feel him movin' and groovin' till the last second when he was born!

Tears of joy to hear that cry!!  Wahh! Wahh! Perfectly healthy, 9 lb. 3 oz. boy! Before his weight, all the nurses kept saying, "He looks big!" I guessed 8 lbs. 14 oz. and Scott guessed... I have to ask him. :) Scott brought him over to me all bundled and sweet before taking him out to meet the rest of the family.

Events are a little blurry for me after this-- I think I remember... :) The big kids and Mima came back to Recovery and we got to be together. They left for nap and Baby Jude got his first bath right in my room. Eventually we made the trek to Postpartum where we continued the journey. Jude joined us in there and life as we know it began again.
